"When I grow up I want to be a black belt so that I can become an instructor and help other children become black belts too."
We Learn Taekwon-Do
The Little Lions syllabus includes many of the basic Taekwon-Do blocks, strikes and kicks. We practice line work and pad work and sometimes work with a partner or in small groups to put our skills into action. We don't do any contact sparring at this age but we practice all the skills we will need for when we are older.
We Develop Spirit
At Little Lions we learn about courtesy and how to show it to others. We understand what integrity means and always display it. We believe in perseverance and a never give up attitude. We learn self control so that we can work and play safely with others.
We Exercise Our Bodies
The range of age appropriate activites we do at Little Lions gives us a great start on our journey to black belt. We include exercises to develop stamina, stability, coordination, flexibility, control and strength.
We Exercise Our Minds
Little Lions isn't just about exercising the body, it's about exercising the mind as well.We love to play memory games. We learn to count to ten in Korean as well as other basic Taekwon-Do terms. We learn why exercise is important and what some of our muscles are called.
"Thank you for making me feel so welcome at Taekwon-Do. I was terrified at the thought of trying something new and being in an enviroment where I wouldn't know anyone but the others in the class were so friendly and they really put me at ease. I can't wait for the next grading."
Taekwon-Do is the world's most popular martial art. There are various forms of Taekwon-Do and the one we teach is dynamic, fun and suitable for complete beginners through to more experienced martial artists. Students begin as white belts and work through the ranks towards black belt. From black belt we have three additional awards that students can work towards; bronze, silver and gold awards.
Taekwon-Do requires a lot of mental concentration, as a result, when you are at Taekwon-Do you won't be thinking about what a hard day you have had at work or at school. When you kick the pads the stress will flow out of you and at the end of a tough training session you will feel transformed.
Taekwon-Do is great for developing a lean, flexible body. The exercises and techniques we perform strengthen your muscles and tendons, increase your range of motion and build a strong core. Taekwon-Do can help improve your anaerobic and aerobic respiration and is great for improving your coordination and balance
We like to have a good laugh at Taekwon-Do. Our juniors are great at mixing in with children from different schools and always make newcomers feel welcome. Our seniors are always up for a night out or a trip to the local after the latest tournament.
"I think I'm addicted to hitting pads! I always look forward to Saturdays and getting my weekly fix of Korean Kickboxing. I'd like to give a big thank you to the black belts for all the help they've given me since I started."
Our Korean Kickboxing syllabus has been developed over a number of years to combine the fast and dynamic kicks of Taekwon-Do with the hand techniques of boxing and kickboxing. It is suitable for children and adults alike and is perfect for those who are not looking for a traditional martial art.
Everyone begins as a white belt and works their way through the belt system towards black belt. Emphasis is placed upon improving fitness at your own pace. Students practice hand drills, partner drills, pad work and sparring.
Melt Fat. Fast.
Kicboxing can burn a massive 800 calories per hour! It is a full body workout that tones from top to toe. As long as you aren't afraid of a little sweat and hard work you will soon see results.
A Good Night's Sleep
Kicking and punching the pads for an hour will rid you of all stress and agression. Kickboxing and other martial arts trigger the release of endorphins that reduce your perception of pain and produce a positive feeling in the body similar to mophine.
The great thing about our club is how supportive everyone is of one another. We all train for different reasons and often our biggest opponent is ourselves, so it's great to have other people on your side.
